In our work as academics, we may decide to publish in open access journals and pay publication fees for the privilege of owning the rights to our intellectual product. However, it might be difficult for us to evaluate the level of credibility that some of these journals might have. We receive barrages of emails asking for contributions to journals with questionable value. I have published some papers with the Biomed Central open access journals, and they have a good reputation as far as I know. We recently published in a new open access journal that has a distinguished editorial board, Cancer Health Disparities. Although it is not indexed in PubMed yet, I hope that it will be soon, so the science on cancer health disparities can be more widely shared with our colleagues around the world. See below for a link to our recent comparative study published in this new journal.
